The Yemen-based Al Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed on Saturday responsibility for an attack in which more than 10 intelligence officers were injured late last September in the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

The AQAP said in an internet statement that 14 officers were killed and several others injured. Security sources said at the time that 10 soldiers were injured three of them seriously in the attack which happened on September 25th, 2010.

AQAP statement said that the attack came immediately after the officers finished a training course on fighting terrorism supervised by American trainers. “The Mujahideen returned safe and sound after the operations,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, an intelligence officer was killed when two gunmen opened fire on him in the city of Al Mukalla east of Yemen, security sources said Saturday.

The intelligence officer , Abdullah Ba Sharaheel on his way home with his family when the gunmen, riding a motorcycle, shot him dead in the area of Fawh in Al Mukalla, in the eastern province of Hudhrmourt.
